HELLO!!

My name is:

RUBY

Free Web Journal from Bravenet.com Free Web Journal from Bravenet.com
I was born in Mornington, Victoria, Australia on 27th May 2004

MY JOURNAL:
27th May, 2004

Well what a surprise. I have been sitting at Rosebud watching the people come in and out of the shop, saying “take me” take me” and along came this man and woman and said “ I will have this one”, thank you.

They were taking me – gosh I am excited.

The shop assistant wrapped me up in tissue paper, and put me into a lovely bag. I said to myself “Where am I going”.

I went into a car – a short drive and here I was arriving at the home of Jeanette & Graham Lane and there were two boys – dogs –
Gismo and Jake. Jake is a Bucheon Frieze and Gismo is a Shitzu, just little boys, great.

How lucky was I –

Let me tell, my name is RUBY.

30th May, 2004.

I have met Mark – Jeanette and Graham’s son, Helen – Jeanette’s friend and Joyce – Jeanette’s friend.

We have been shopping – out for lunch to-day to a wonderful winery to celebrate Jeanette’s birthday – there were 73 people there from the Rye Beach Probus Club as well as Beverley and Malcolm friends of Jeanette May – a beautiful place called Manton Creek Winery at Red Hill which is not far from here. We had beautiful food, nice wine and lovely company. The whole group sang “Happy Birthday” to Jeanette and she went red, well sort of’.

I am presently enjoying the open fire as we had rain, wind and hail here at the moment here.

Love to all Ruby X X X

3rd June, 2004

To-day I played with Jake and Gismo.

Here I am with Jake

After lunch Jeanette told me I would be going soon to Canada to meet all the friends from The “World Wide Circle of Friends”.

I feel sad as I have just managed to settle in here with my new friends – but gosh how lucky can I be travelling all that way across the ocean to Canada and so young people save for years to go on a trip like this, so now I am so excited.

Jeanette said that I will eventually come back to see her after I go to visit all the friends at their home and to the Conference at Marie’s .Sharon is coming from Vancouver (Paradise) Island and Daphne is travelling from Argentina, and many others are coming from across Canada and the United States.

Jeanette explained that everyone will write into the Journal and on the computer, take photos and post them so she will see me on the computer and hear about my travels.

What a time I am going to have meeting everyone and traveling. Love to all Ruby XXX

Thursday June 9th, 2004

To-day I went to the Frankston Botanical Gardens and out for lunch at the Davey’s Hotel in Frankston – the Hotel is overlooking the Bay and what a wonderful view of the ships going along to the Heads and to the docks.

I loved the Gardens they had all native plants there and may I say it was raining again, but we enjoyed the walk through the gardens and I watched the ducks swimming in the pond.

There were 20 people on the trip – this was another Probus Function and what lovely people I met on the trip, some of them were at the Winery on the 30th.May.

Love to all Ruby XXX

Friday 11th June, 2004

To-day I went with Jeanette, Helen and others to the Frankston Cultural Centre to the Morning Melodies to see and hear Judy Glynn who is a comedian and singer.. A great morning – we laughed and laughed at the jokes and great voice – I just loved the morning. Morning Melodies is held in Frankston each month and it is conducted by the Senior’s Association for the State of Victoria. They are held in many country places across the State and well know Artists – a great morning out for $11.00 per person. We then went to lunch at Mornington which is not far from Frankston and sat near the water at a Coffee Shop for lunch.

When I came home I played with Jake and Gismo and went to bed early as I was very tired.

Love to all Ruby xxx

Here I am with my new friend Rose

Saturday 12th June 2004

Well here it is the Queens Birthday Weekend and you should see the extra people who have come down the Peninsula for the long weekend – gosh – I am stunned by the people who have arrived here.

I went to-day to the ferry to see it – there is a ferry that runs across the Bay here from Sorrento to Queenscliffe and you can take your car across it – like the one that is in Vancouver that goes down to Victoria – it is a beautiful trip and they have dolphins swimming with the ferry as you come across.

On Tuesday 15th I am going to Canada and Jeanette has told me just to go to sleep when she puts me in the padded bag to fly across the world to Marie’s place.

I am a little frightened but I will be fine as Jeanette has told me about the wonderful friends that are going to look after me in Ontario, Toronto, United States, England, Argentina – “Aren’t I going to have a great time”. Love Ruby XXX

Monday 14th June, 2004

I said goodbye to Jake and Gismo tonight, gave Jeanette and Graham a big hug and kisses, and Joyce and Helen, and tomorrow I am going to Canada.

Gosh, I have had a great time here and I am sorry to leave – we have had rain, rain and more rain to-day and it is cold now and we have the fire going. Jake and Gismo are asleep in front of the fire and Jeanette is doing some craft – she is making a cushion – it is pretty.

Jeanette took my photo as well and I am going to have one taken with Joyce as well in the morning.

Well it is time for bed now, looking forward to meeting you Marie – see you soon – lots of love from Ruby XXXXX

Tuesday 15th June, 2004

Here I am at the Post Office and Jeanette has just put me in the padded bag – ladies I am on the way and will see you soon, when I arrive there give me a big hug as I will need one. I shed a tear when I left this morning from Jeanette and Graham’s house, Gismo cried and so did Jake, they waved me good bye and said have a great time – looking forward to the good sleep now – bye to everyone – love to you – RubyXXXX (p.s. I have an Aussie accent)
Jeanette has told me I may not have that when I come back, I said who knows.

Goodbye, Jeanette. Until we meet again!!

I started my travels from Jeanette and Graham's house on 15th June to Tilbury, Ontario, Canada
where I stay with Marie, Patsi and Garnet.

Ooee, I am so excited ... I have heard one of my first duties there will be to help hand out Canadian daisies made by Pat of Niagara, to a whole busfull of people who are coming from all over, who I am going to meet, and continue travelling with .....I've got the fidgets, I can hardly wait!

Also, a little bird told me I'll be camping there. YIPPEE!!

Friday 25th June:
Phew!! I finally arrived in Ontario,Canada. What a trip!! Marie was worried I would be held up at the border as I didn't have a passport. But all went well, and no sooner did I arrive than Patsi took me to where Marie and Garnet were camping. Me and their dog Skamp, became instant friends. I hope to have some more photos to show you soon.

June 27th:
We went to the place I will be calling home for awhile and I sat beside her computer to watch her chat with all her friends, who she said would soon be coming to visit.

July 2nd:
Went camping with Marie and Garnet again on a river bank and we went for a boat ride!!
July 8th:
Today I met Marie and Garnet's daughter Sue and her son Johnny,

Waiting patiently for the Reunion

July 13TH:
YIPPEE!!!!! it is the famous meeting time at last. Marie went with Maxine to meet Sharon and Kendra all the way from Vancouver Island. Oh WoW!! I'm so excited!!

July14th:
We took Sharon, Kendra and Maxine to a flea market.... now I ask you, Who wants to go to a market to get fleas???!!! I don't know what they bought, but I sure hope it included flea powder, hehehe.
Then Pat, Claudia and Chelsea came. More hugs and kisses!! This Reunion is going to be so special!!!
July15th:
Boy we were up early as Daphne is flying in to Detroit......... from what planet did they say?? We headed across the border into U.S. I was scared to go into another country and Marie held on to me.
OH!! Wow!! Daphne Arrived and everyone mobbed her. More hugs and kisses and pictures! Then the banner was brought out and more pics!. Then we headed back across the border and there was no trouble even though I don't have a passport. But I have a lot of pins now, from all over. I feel so proud.

July16th:
Today we had a lunch date at the Veteran Legion. All these friends must be very famous people, we got on the FRONT PAGE of the Tilbury Newspaper!!

July17th:
All of us present went to the Walls Underground Railway. Just like at the flea market there were no fleas, there was no railway here either!! It was interesting, it was the escape route of the black slaves, who used railways terms to confuse the people.
We had a surprise birthday party for Chelsea who was going to be 15!

Wow! can people really live to be that old??
WE had some fun games, a boxing match between Patsi "Major Brat" and Sharon, and contests and Chelsea got 15 blue candles.

Sunday 18th July:
Claudia said a service for all.... truth is we all had alot to be thankful for, and then some awards were given out. Marie and Garnet got one for being the bestest hosts... Ah! I feel so proud of them! and Pat got one for being the bus driver and driving us round the bend...... there were lots of those.

We all left for Niagara Falls, And after a hamburger supper and a wee accident to Kendra, we all slept in a suite, all 11 of my friends and me... and only one bathroom!! Some went to see the fireworks over the Falls
Monday 19th July:
We all went shopping in Niagara. Daphne wanted to go on the Maid of the Mist, a boat that goes right up close to the Falls and makes everyone wet. NUTS is her middle name alright!! Patsi and the teens went with her, and Drew who is a whopping 6' 5" got in as a child!. Daphne loved it and said she wanted to go again as I hadnt gone with them. But instead we all returned to Tilbury. Boy were we all tired when we got home after midnight.

It's fun riding in the bus

Tuesday 20th July:
It was very hot, we all headed off to Shipshewana in Indiana, a trip that took 8 hours instead of 4. Poor Pat who had to drive all the time.
We met up with Taz, Floyd, Lois and Bruce in Essenhaus Amish Restaurant for supper. We ate loads, and Oh MY! Peanut butter pie!! Then we went to Taz's home. Oh WOW!! Angels everywhere. And beautiful dolls. Patsi would have loved it, but she had to work.

21st July:
We all headed for the flea market to get some more fleas... ..no, some more shopping. Boy! was it hot!
Then we headed for Michigan to visit Ruth and George. I am so happy I am getting to visit so many of these friends, and they are no longer just names and photos. They are lovely people and they have a beautiful home. We slept in mobil homes, the guest room, the sitting room... we are used to sleeping together by now.
22nd July:
We had breakfast and more pics were taken and goodbyes were being said. Oh dear!! that is the hardest part, saying goodbye. sniff, sniff!!
We headed back home to Tilbury, and was I happy to see Patsi again!!

Friday 23rd July:
Well I am sorry to say this reunion is coming to an end. We had to say goodbye to Pat, Claudia, Chelsea and Drew.
More hugs, and a few tears. Oh dear! Will I ever get used to saying goodbye?
When Patsi came home from work, she took Daphne, Sharon and Kendra for a ride to see the light house and the sunset. The time is approaching to decide who I continue travels with.

24th July:
All of us that were left went to a campout and listened to some country music and had a potluck meal, which was lovely. We had to get back early.

Here I am with Marie

July 25th.
We had to get up early to take Sharon and Kendra to Windsor to get their plane home. We all shed a few more tears, as we said goodbye to these wonderful friends...... who didnt seem to want to go.
After that we just had a quiet day taking it easy
Mon26th July:
Daphne cooked us an Argentine meal, and Oh it looks like I am travelling on with her. We said goodbye to Maxine and George and ........yes! I was handed into Daphne's care

Daphne has adopted me now, and on her..... I mean our last night in Tilbury, in Canada, she let me sleep on her pillow. I think she is just as sad as I am to be leaving all these lovely people and this great country. She says she is going to get me the bestest passport so i won't have to worry about that any more
28th July:
Although it was lovely to travel in hand luggage instead of an airmail bag, I don't think Daphne was very happy with the treatment the airline companies gave her. We were thoroughly investigated in Detroit and we were an awful long time in Pittsburgh airport. Then I heard her telling her friend that met her that one of her bags was missing. Oh my! am I glad I wasn't in it!!
We eventually got to the friend's house in Wheeling West Virginia, early evening. Goodness!! what a beautiful house and scenery. I can do forward rolls all over the soft carpet.
The friends have taken Daphne to see Wheeling Glass museum and Olgebay mansion and grounds. They just went out to take in some photos and who should pass but the President of the U.S. George Bush. My, Oh My!! now I am convinced this group of friends is very very important!! Aren't I lucky to be a special member!!

There are lots of birds around here, and we have seen deer, squirels, groundhogs, rabbits, we even captured on film a squirrel helping itself from a bird feeder!!

Well, Daphne has promised to put some more pics on here just as soon as we get to her home, what was the planet again?? Oh yes... Argentina!!

Sunday 1st August

We went to Pittsburgh and visited the Carnegie Natural History and Arts Museum. They have life sized dinosaurs in there, and some really lovely displays of animals in their natural looking habitat.
Then we went to a place on the River Ohio for pizza

Monday 2nd August

I'm a bit nervous,as today we leave for Planet Argentina, a phone call showed there was no change in the flight times, so we went to do some last minute souvenir shopping at a place called Cherokee. Daphne bought some more braclet charms there.

Our flight left aday late and we went first to Dallas and finally reached Argentina where we were met by Leo and didn't have to go through customs. Yippee!!

At Daphne's house we met Romina, Ruben and their dogs, Kim and Skippy. I can see there are lots of my companions in the toy corner. I can't wait to meet the little girl who owns them. I hear she is the one in charge of decided my future places of visit. But here in this city by the sea, I am going to spend a few days with other friends

I am learning a new language here. HOLA is the first word I heard. "¿Que hay para comer?" means what is there to eat. And " Te Quiero" is I love you. See! I picked up the most important things.

During the week I was presented to all Daphne's students of English, and got to sat in a place of honour on top of the board.

There is one she refers to as "Oh No Three"..... because he doesn't remember from one class to the next what he was taught and forgets to bring his things. I got to wondering who " OH No One and Two" were until I realised one of them was Skippy because of his " Drop 'n' drag" habit as soon as he enters the house. he-he-he!!

11th August

My passport has arrived!! YIPPEE!! And all up to date with my travels so far. I am so happy now, I wont have to worry about that detail any more.

12th August

Oh goodie goodie! a birthday today. PARTY!! It's Romina's birthday and I get to help make the cake. Cream filling and topping, with peaches. mmmmmm!
HUH? No friends came. Romina blew out the candles, cut the cake in half and made of with half of it!! Geez!

14th August

Today is a special day for me. I met Agostina, today. She's the one who decides where I go from now on. She prepared a special welcome party for me, Betina Bunny (my travel companion from Pat), Maria, the doll from Maxine, and Michael Moose from Canada. Michael will go to live with Maria Elena who collects bears.

15th August>BR>

I got a new skirt today to have somewhere to put all my new pins,

22nd August

Today, Daphne took me for a long, long walk and I am staying a few days with Charito who helped make the Reunion banner. I met her family, Gustavo, Ignacio, Santiago, Victoria who is a sweetie like Agos, and their HUGE dog Junior. My! I am having so much fun meeting all these people. And I am learning new Spanish words all the time, Adios! Hasta mañana.... see you tomorrow.......

Well I spent two whole weeks with Charito and family. I saw the children off to school every day, and sat with them when they returned and did their homework or kept charito company while she cooked their meals. then one day Leo came to fix something in their house, and took me back to Daphne, as I still have to visit others in this city,

The days are getting longer and the weather is warming up in this southern hemisphere land, and today 11th Sept we worked in the garden, cleared some weeds and planted giant.... daisies!! (What else?) we also made and painted a small trellis for morning glories to grow up, but I don't suppose I'll see them grow.
Never mind, there will be other gardens. Oh and Daphne has started another quilt in shades of wine red and cream. She says she is going to do her whole room in those colours in her summer.

We were also going to have the draw today to see where I go, but it was decided to wait till the end of the month so more people can have their names down. This is so exciting!! Where ever will I go next??

14th September: Something exciting happened today. Romina announced she was going to get married! But she just wants a simple wedding as they plan to go to Spain to find work, so they don't want a lot of expenses before hand. The wedding date has been set for 7th January, and they hope to travel in about May. Pity I am not going to be here for that, but maybe I'll get to go to Spain to visit them.

26th Sept:

The days are getting longer here and warmer. Spring is here! The trees are bursting into leaf and blossom. Today Daphne dictated a list of names to Agostina, my guardian, who wrote them all on separate pieces of paper, and put them in a red bag. It is evening, she is shaking the bag.... this is the moment she decides where I go. I'll be sorry to go, I have got used to hearing people speak Spanish, but my destiny is to move on. Who is going to have me? Will it be someone new? Will It be someone I know? Agostina is holding me tight, and I am trying to spy into that red bag. She has one of the slips of paper in her hand, she won't let me see it. Slowly she opens it..... Ay! the suspense is killing me!!

PAT! the paper says Pat. I am going back to Canada! Yippee!! I'll get to ride in a bus again.

3rd Oct
I said goodbye to all Daphne's students this week and wished them well in their exams in December. Agostina helped make up a batch of cookies, and insisted that one trayful be small ones. Then she organized another party for me and all her "companions" and wished me a safe and happy journey back to Canada, told me not to forget to come back, and to behave myself!! I am going to miss her.

4th Oct: Daphne packed me up in a box with my journal, my backpack and my brand new passport. She wanted to include something for my new hostess, Pat, but the weight of the box was hovering dangerously close to a kilo, must be all those cookies I ate, hahaha, and all the badges I collected up so far. Anyway we walked all the way to the central postoffice, my box already for wrapping, as the customs inspectors had to take a peak inside first..... I hope they liked what they saw!! Then it was goodbye Daphne, goodbye Argentina.... boy, isn't it dark in this box! Mummy!! I miss you! Marie, I'm thinking of you, heard you suffered from the hurricanes. Pat, am I looking forward to seeing you again,.
Bye for now, wish me a safe journey....... Hasta la vista!

Ruby

Tuesday October 19th, 2004

Well, I've arrived at Pat's safe and sound today. I could hear Pat yelling yippee as she took me out of the mailbox. Whew, what a long trip! sure happy to get out of that cramped box.

Darryl took a pic of me and Pat, then Pat took one of me sitting in this wonderful little wicker chair, just my size! I think I heard Pat's dog Toby barking outside, I probably won't spend anytime with him as Pat says he's an outdoor dog.

I already met two new people. Darryl had a golf buddy and his wife here (doing business) so Pat introduced me to them.

As you've probably figured out, the first thing Pat did was create a hotmail email addy and Net Passport for me, and I've already added many of you to my contact list. In fact I already chatted with Peachy (Marie) for a few minutes. And, I hope to chat with all of you from time to time.

If anyone wants to send me an email I'd love to hear from you. is:
My new addy

Pat has lots of activities planned for me. She wants to take me to visit Belinda (her daughter) and her boys Matthew & Nicholas. She is a member of the Circle. Maybe stop by and see Janet as well. In fact she wants to take me to visit all of her children and grandchildren. I'm looking forward to seeing Drew again.

She mentioned that Liz maybe coming for a visit next month and have Caesars. Guess I'll have to be the chaperone and the designated driver for that one!

I have to sign off for now, Pat has to get ready for work. She says unfortunately I can't go with her, but I probably need to stay at home and rest anyway.

A special hello to Jeanette (and Jake&Gismo) and Marie, Garnet and Patsi (and Skamper).

I'll write again soon and keep you all updated on my activities.
love and kisses to all
Ruby

October 21, 2004
Hi everyone,
Because Pat had to work all week we didn't get to do much, but today we went for an outing.
She came in and woke me up at 7:00 a.m.! doesn't she know a girl has to get her beauty sleep?

But, before we went out she gave me a very lovely little sweater. Boy am I ever glad she did, it really is cold here. Anyway, she told me she had to go to an Associate's meeting at the Casino, but first we were going to visit friends for coffee, and I would get to meet them!

So off we went, what a lovely drive, and she got some pictures of the fall colours, and of course one of me in my new yellow sweater.

We arrived at her friend’s house about 8 o'clock where I met two of her friends from work, Suzie and Helen. Susie said I was adorable, (of course) and Helen gushed over how cute I was (was there ever any doubt?). And although we didn't have much time we enjoyed some coffee and donuts. Actually Pat and I had a scrumptious cinnamon bun.

It was a short outing, but I enjoyed myself. Canada )well Ontario sure looks different in the fall.

Taken at the Lock Eight Park, which is located (of course) at Lock 8 on hte Canal (St. Lawrence Seaway) which is just a few blocks from where Pat lives.
This is the last (and longest) of the flight locks.
Here is a link, with a Map You'll notice at the bottom of the map right by Lake Erie is Port Colborne, where Pat lives.
It was certainly quieter than the trip we took in the Circle Chariot last summer. Although I missed Patsi hollering "Smoke, break!"

That's all for now until next time,
luv to all
Ruby

4th November 2004
Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't written sooner, but Pat has been busy and we haven't really done much.

It's interesting in one of my last entries when I was still with Daphne I said, "The days are getting longer and the weather is warming up in this southern hemisphere land" And it was really quite nice.

Then I came to visit Pat, and I feel like I've been turned upside down! In North America they have something called Daylight Saving Time, where they change the clocks in the spring by turning them forward one hour to get an extra hour of daylight. Nice concept. But On October 31st, they reverted back to what is known as Standard Time, and they turn the clocks back one hour (Spring Forward; Fall back they call it!) Seems like an awful lot of work to me. Oh well, what do I know, I'm just a little bear!

So, anyway, now the days are getting shorter, and the temperature is falling. Boy am I very glad Pat gave me that sweater! Speaking of which, she added a wonderful Canadian Flag crest to the back. Look! She also added some daisy appliques to my back pack. Pat says she's going to make me a hat too. What a lucky little bear I am.

Pat says we are meeting Liz when she comes to visit on the 15th. Wow, I can hardly wait for Liz to come. Pat says we'll be going shopping and probably be eating out. Finally some excitement.

Speaking of which Pat's daughter Belinda (she's also a Circle member) and grandson Nicholas stopped by for a visit today. What a cutie he is. He is three and from what I observed, quite a handful for his Mom. But he did slow down long enough to have his picture taken with me. And Pat took one of Nicholas, me and Belinda too. I'm also including those as well. Take a look!!

Pat also tells me there is to be a baby shower for Julie (she's Pat's daughter-in-law who just had the new baby girl Makailey) at the end of the month. And, she said I could go and meet all of Pat's daughter's and granddaughters. Now, that will be fun.

Well that's all for today. Will wite again soon.
luv to all
Ruby

8th Nov.
Hi everyone,
As promised in chat this morning here are some pics from my day out with Pat.
Early in the morning we got up and Pat dressed me in my new sweater then buckled me into the car seat.
We stopped at the bank (to get some money of course!), then the gas station to fill up with gas, and the to Timmies for coffee and a tea biscuit for Pat, Hot Chocolate for me.
We drove to Welland which Pat tells me is about 15 kilometers (10 miles) from here where we dropped off some photos for reprinting. They said we could pick them up in about an hour so off we went to the Craft &Fabric store where Pat bought some Christmas fabric for the Christmas swap. We also stopped at Staples Business Depot to get a new printer cartridge and then the Postal Depot to send off Daphne’s parcel..
(Coo,!! I bet she thinks That's a big souvenir spoon!!)
From there we went to Wally’s where I got to tide in the cart!

After we got home, Pat said we had to go to the Laundromat to do laundry (she’s still annoyed about here washer and dryer not working). So we gathered up the laundry and away we went.

Pat was a little worried about the cold, so later we went to a thrift store where she bought me some neat socks that have (what else?) but teddy bears all over them.
She tried to find me a hat and scarf, but my size is just too small. So, she got some fabric and made me very own! .

And here's a picture of all my new winter wear. How cool is that?
That night she was searching through boxes and bags (she’s still unpacking) and guess what she found? Something her cousin Bruce (who lives near Jeanette in Australia) sent her many years ago! Kandy Koala and her baby Kody! .

21st Nov: Hello

Well this is probably the last I email I'll be sending from Pat's house. I'll have to make sure my next Caregiver gets the email addy and password so they can keep in touch with everyone.

Liz arrived safe and sound on Monday, we were happy to see her. She was thrilled with the Father Christmas Pat made for her. and she really liked the "Angels on your pillow" that Pat did for her.

We went shopping to some craft and thrift stores and of course WalMart. I told Liz all about my trip to Wally's with Pat!
Then we came home for supper of pizza, wings and they had Caesars (I drank Pepsi, and don't let them tell you otherwise!)

The next day we took a drive to Niagara-on-the-Lake. First we stopped to look at the Niagara Gorge and went into the gift shop there (of course!) Pat bought me a Canadian/Niagara Falls pen so folks can write in my journal and the cutes little Oink teddy bear pin who is holding (what else?) a Canadian flag!

We had a wonderful time and when we got back Liz had to leave. she forgot to bring her medications so was unable to stay any longer.

I also have two new charms on my bracelet. One says Friend the other says "I Love Canada". Pat tells me I have WWWCOF charm on it's way from Marie. I just love this group.

That's all for today.
Ruby

P.S: I almost forgot to tell you that my new friend, has a name, it's "Howie the Hershey Bear!" He’s small, dark and handsome ! Sigh!!

25th Nov: Hello Everyone,

I know I said my last email might be last, but today I had the most exciting day! I got to go out for lunch and meet Pat's brother Roy.

Pat chatted with her brother last night and they made a date to meet for coffee. However, at the end of the conversation, he said there is a Boston Pizza across the street from Timmies, meet me there and I'll buy you lunch! How could Pat refuse?

So, Pat dressed me in my winter finery, and off we went to meet her dear brother Roy at the Boston Pizza restaurant.
After we arrived Pat took my picture with the menu, and one of the decor.
         ,

When Roy finally got there (Pat says he's not known for his punctuality) I presented him with a COF pin and pen, and we tried to convince him to join our wonderful circle. In any case he did agree to have his picture taken with me.

Later, the waitress commented on how cute I was (what else?) and was duly impressed when we told her of my travels.

Pat and I are now home, Pat told her me I should get plenty of rest as we have a Baby Shower tomorrow night for her daughter-in-law Julie and her new daughter Makailey. Pat also said I will get to meet all of her granddaughters, as well as her oldest and dearest friend Jeannette (they've been friends for over 50 years!).

So, I guess I'll be writing at least one more time to report on the shower!

luv to all

Ruby

27th November 2004, Well everyone,

Looks like this will really, really be my last email from Pat's. The next one will be from my new home, wherever that is! Not sure whether I am happy to be moving on soon or sad that I am leaving, sniff, sniff!

Anyway, Pat and I went to the baby shower for her daughter-in-law Julie and her new new daughter, Makailey,

Me Pat and Makailey,      Makailey and her Gran, Heather

I met all of Pat's daughters and granddaughters, and have pics with several of the folks there.

Me and Danielle    Amanda with me,     And Belinda

Pat and her sister-in-law, Gwen,       Pat's friend of 50 years, Jeanette.

Catharine (who is Jennifer's 4th daughter, and is seven) became my official guardian and spokesperson.
She looked after me at the shower and explained to everyone how I travelled all over the world. She said she would love to keep me! But Pat explained I would be moving on soon to my next destination. She also wasn' t impressed that I had to be mailed! But Pat explained that was the only way I was allowed to travel. I gave everyone there COF pins and pens as reminders of me.

The shower was a big success, with lots of cute gifts. Not to mention great food! Catharine even shared a Ritz cracker with me!

This is a little Prayer bear that carries a prayer for the child

15th December,
Hi everyone!

I finally arrived in Ocean City. BBBRRRR is it cold here!! I sure am glad I have my sweater with me. I may have to go shopping for winter clothes now. Becky has had a busy work schedule so we haven't had time to do much yet. However, we will be doing some things on the weekend. I will be getting some pictures for everyone. So far I like it here. Will add more later.

18th Dec.

Here I am with Becky making stockings, she said for Christmas.
Perhaps some one should tell me why people want such strange stockings for Christmas. After all, this is my first one. So come on someone. Just what is this tradition of Christmas Stockings and where does it come from?
I’m glad I got a picture with Jay. He has such a nice furry face.**

Becky caught me trying to see what is under the tree. She says she'll have to keep her eye on me. I want to see what those boxes are. Are they gifts?
We went out to see the Christmas lights but it was too dark to get good pictures. So we will have to try again. Tomorrow is church day. I have to get up early to get ready.

Talk to you soon. Love Becky, Jay and Ruby

20th December
HI everyone,
I am having my first what they call Nor Eastern. It was -3 when we got up this morning and we have some snow on the ground. I really like the snow but the wind is blowing at 40 miles an hour so it's to cold for us to go outside. I'm just going to stay on the the nice warm bed with Jared for a while. He has his own heating pad!! I think I will sneak over in a while and share with him.
Talk to you soon. Love Ruby

O.k. I found out about those Christmas stockings. It seems that legend has it that a Nobleman's wife died and left him with 3 daughters. He lost all his money to useless inventions and they had to move into the peasants cottage. When it came time for the daughters to marry he had no money or property as dowries for the new husbands and the family. On Christmas Eve the girls had washed the clothes and hung the stockings on the fireplace to dry. Saint Nicholas knowing the despair of the father came by and threw a bag of gold down the chimney into each stocking .
The next morning they found they had enough money to get married and they all lived long happy lives.

THE END
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE*** Love Ruby

26th December

8th Jan 2005
Hi everyone,
We have been really busy with getting all the Christmas decorations down and getting ready for the postcard swap.

We took time out today to make chocolate chip cookies for church tomorrow. Becky has been busy looking for a job so I have been home with Thurston and Chole. Here they are on top of the cage.

I was trying to sneak a cookie before dinner but I got caught.
I will talk to you all soon.
Love, RUBY

Hi everyone

Sorry I haven't been in touch. Becky was sick so we have not be able to do much for the last 3 weeks. We did have a blizzard. I sure do know about the cold and snow now. Becky will be starting her new job tomorrow. I hope I can come back when things settle down and she has more time. I did collect some things.

I can't wait to share them with my next keeper. We will know who that is in a few days. Are you on the list???
Talk to you soon. Ruby
Well, I have helped Becky get better, seen her settle into a new job. I was even lucky to get a few extra days with her, getting under her feet while she has been trying to get ready to move. I wish her luck with her move.
Bye for now, talk to you all soon. Love, Ruby
